Airlines around the world operate thousands of aircraft, with Boeing and Airbus taking the lion share of the manufacture of these aircraft. Popular models such as the Boeing 737, 747, 767, 777 and 787, and the Airbus A319, A320, A321, A330 and A380 transport hundreds of thousands of people to their destinations each day. Efforts such as the A380 aim to increase the number of passengers in each aircraft allowing for more cost-effective mass transport. Future developments such as pilotless aircraft may streamline air transport even further and reduce idle time being spent by passengers and aircraft on the ground.
